(Task 8) Final proposal

Working Title

Tainted Love

Channel for Broadcast

My channel for Broadcast would be "Kerrang! TV". This is because it is a station which plays songs and music videos which touch on sensitive topics such as that being music videos with edgier themes such as abuse or depression. This is common on Kerrang due to the artists featured on the station. Most commonly featured are punk/rock boy bands which appeal to youths in troubled times as their relate-able lyrics covers topics from trouble with family life to relationships

Not only this but another reason why "Kerrang! TV" would be my channel for broadcast is that it has an almost identical demographic as my previously explored and chosen target audience. This means that similar interests are shared, not only this but also this demographic has the same social grade, meaning their experiences and environment will be the same as to what I was targeting and exploring with my target audience

Target Audience

According to the mosaic classification my target audience resides in the F and I categories
F- Suburban Stability
I- Family basics

These categories cover the typical suburban lifestyle which, from my music video, is where the setting. themes and narrative take place. These demographics will relate to my music video more than others as it portrays the typical hardships they may face in a setting that they will find familiar.
However, although my audience is predominantly in the F and I categories this does not mean that my music video will exclusively appear to them. People from all classes and backgrounds encounter the issue of domestic abuse, however the issue is mainly seen in lower class struggling individuals.

Also according to the data found at the yougov website
From the monthly income and age range we can clearly see that the demographic is that of struggling/lowerclass youth aged between 18-24. Although the demographic for gender is shown as male the female demographic still makes up a considerable amount as the gap is only less than 10%.
The social grade C2DE also shows a clear link to my previous findings. This is because as I had previously mentioned the themes in my music video are most common at the working class. This means that this audience will be attracted to my product due to the similarities they can relate to from their everyday lives

Furthermore in regards to the young and rubicam theory my target audience fits into the "strugglers". This is because strugglers are often seen indulging themselves in unhealthy products. Things such as alcohol abuse and other drugs are exactly the products in which a struggler uses. My product attracts this audience due to that my music video has alcoholic themes and the abuse of other drugs such as tobacco. This attracts them as a sense of reflection and empathy can be drawn from the music video upon the similarities they have from their life experiences

Genre

My music video's will in the genre of 'pop', it will therefore share many conventions and characteristics of a pop music video. Note-able conventions and characteristics being a fast paced editing style with snappy cuts and a music video with the narrative with the commonly relate-able theme of love/relationships. My music video will primarily be a mix between narrative and performance, with the addition of a few abstract shots to help diversify and add more texture to the music video.

Style of music video

In regards to the style of my music video it will feature and be pieced together with various different uses of editing and and camera angles. With respect to editing I will employ things such as slow motion and colour correction to stylise and define my music video. With colour correction I will add, to certain shots, a black and white grey/grainy look so as to convey the intended emotions and feelings I want the audience to feel. With slow motion I will be using to add emphasis and further reinforce certain shots, such as a rose burning. I may also use slow motion to convey states of things such as drunkenness, or inversely fast motion to suggest a 'high' and drugged up state.

On the topic of transitions and fades I will be employing the use of dissolves to overlap multiple shots such as this one seen.
With fades, I will use fades as it is a means of a smooth transition between shots. However this does not mean that I won't use basic fast jump style cuts, as this are effective for pacing and engaging the audience.

My camera shots will be vary from handheld shaky shots, tripod shots and pans with both. Such as with the tripod I will try to get a variation of different creative shots. This includes using the tripod to get a ceiling to floor shot to give a different and interesting perspective.

Creative and interesting ways I can use a handheld shot would to give a first person/POV shot so that the audience is given the sense of looking through the eyes of the characters in the music video.
